Exercise Increases Life Expectancy, No Matter Your Weight, Cholesterol Levels, or Blood Pressure

We all know that high blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol levels, low HDL cholesterol levels, and an excess of stored energy (i.e., fat) increase the odds for heart disease. We also all know that exercise lowers the risk of heart disease.

Well, now there is some good news for those of us who have one or more risk factor for heart disease. An Australian study, using data taken from over 8,000 participants during a fifteen year period, determined that your risk for premature death decreases the more you exercise even if you don’t lose any weight or alter your cholesterol or blood pressure. Exercise is beneficial, full stop.

So keep on exercising, even if the numbers on the scale aren’t budging, you still are doing yourself a world of good. Exercise improves both the quality and the quantity of your life, no matter how much you weigh.
